Publishing Principles
The principles behind what we publish on Edebiyatla, and with what care. Not written to forbid, but to do literature justice.
Edebiyatla works like a magazine desk: respect for the text, assurance for the author, care for the reader.
Literary merit
What do we look for?
Literary merit comes first in everything we publish. The yardstick changes by genre; the care does not.
- Poetry
Imagery and cadence
- Fiction
Plot, character and command of narration
- Essay
Intellectual originality and consistent style
Care for language
We expect respect for a language's sound, spelling and expressive range; craft is encouraged over carelessness and crudeness.
Criticism addresses the work
Criticism is indispensable here, but its subject is always the work. The author's person, beliefs or choices are never up for debate.
Copyright
The work belongs to its author.
Copyright in texts published on the platform belongs to their authors. Edebiyatla holds only a limited right of use so that works can be displayed.
Stays with the author
- All moral and economic rights (Law No. 5846)
- Responsibility to upload only original work
Granted to Edebiyatla
- Non-exclusive, royalty-free right to display and transmit
- Valid only while the work stays on the platform
- No commercial transfer or sale
Plagiarism, passing off and unattributed quotation are clear breaches of literary ethics; such content is removed at once and the accounts concerned face sanctions.
Legal framework
We are a host; responsibility lies with whoever posts.
Under Law No. 5651, Edebiyatla is a hosting provider. Legal responsibility for texts, comments, images and audio rests with the user who shares them. We defend freedom of thought and art, but that freedom does not include trampling on others' dignity or glorifying crime.
Boundaries
What has no place here
Hate speech
Discriminatory language targeting race, language, religion, sect, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin or disability.
Insults and defamation
Insults, slurs, slander, threats, blackmail and statements that injure a person's dignity.
Violence and incitement
Content glorifying violence, inciting crime, spreading terrorist propaganda or promoting illegal substances.
Obscenity
Pornographic or obscene material that exceeds literary and artistic bounds.
Spam and abuse
Non-literary advertising, chain messages, trolling and conduct meant to disrupt the community.
Moderation
How does a report work?
Moderation exists not for censorship but to protect literary standards, mutual courtesy and legal safeguards.
Report
Suspect or reported content reaches the moderation team.
Review
The content is assessed objectively against literary ethics, the legal framework and these principles.
Decision
If a breach is found, content may be removed or withdrawn temporarily without prior notice; accounts that repeat breaches are suspended for a period or indefinitely.
Accessibility
Everyone should be able to read.
Literature is for everyone. Letting texts be read with different eyes, devices and habits is part of how we publish.
Readable presentation
Texts are set with generous line spacing. Text size comes in four steps, and the look follows light, dark or system mode and your colour scheme.
Reading by listening
Poems can be listened to in their authors' own voices. Every recording is listened to by our editors before it goes live.
Reporting a barrier
If you meet a reading or navigation barrier on a page, tell us which page and device it happened on.
Notice and takedown
Think your rights have been infringed?
If you see content that infringes your copyright or personality rights, write to us with documents showing your ownership or grounds. Justified, documented notices are handled promptly under the notice-and-takedown mechanism of Law No. 5651.

1. Introduction: The Worth of the Word and Literary Culture
Edebiyatla is an independent literary platform founded to nurture the subtleties of poetry, the depth of storytelling, the intellectual breadth of the essay, and the constructive strength of literary criticism. We believe literature is not merely self-expression, but a noble endeavor that shapes human empathy and collective cultural memory.
These Publishing Principles have been established to ensure Edebiyatla remains a distinguished, respectful and fertile literary community, honoring authors' rights while offering readers a refined aesthetic environment. All users visiting and contributing to the platform agree to adhere to these principles.
2. Literary Merit and Aesthetic Standards
In evaluating published works, literary merit is primary.
- Linguistic Craft: We expect respect for the grammar, rhythm, nuance and expressive capacity of language. In place of careless, vulgar or degraded phrasing, we encourage work bearing stylistic craftsmanship and communicative power.
- Artistic Depth: We value imagery and resonance in poetry; narrative arc, character depth and storytelling craft in prose; and original thought and stylistic poise in essays.
- Culture of Criticism: Literary criticism is vital to our community. Yet criticism must always engage the work itself; an author's private life, identity, or personal convictions must never become the target of literary discourse.
3. Copyright and Author Rights
Copyright in literary works published on the platform belongs to their authors; Edebiyatla holds only a limited right to display the work on the platform.
- Author Ownership: Under Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works ("FSEK"), all economic and moral rights in poems, stories, essays and other contributions remain exclusively with the author.
- Limited Display License: Edebiyatla holds a non-exclusive, royalty-free, limited digital license to display and transmit contributions across our web and mobile interfaces and literary promotional materials, valid only for as long as the work remains on the platform. Edebiyatla will never sell, transfer or commercially exploit your work elsewhere.
- Originality and Plagiarism: Users may publish only original works created strictly by themselves; publishing works belonging to others (even with claimed permission) is strictly prohibited. Plagiarism, uncredited appropriation or unauthorized quotation violates literary ethics; such material is removed promptly and leads to account penalties.
4. Content Responsibility and Legal Framework
Legal responsibility for user content lies with the user who published it. Reported content is reviewed by the moderation team.
- Hosting Provider Status: Under Law No. 5651, Edebiyatla operates as a hosting provider. Criminal, civil and financial liability for any text, commentary, image or audio recording rests solely with the person who published it.
- Freedom of Expression and Its Bounds: While we champion artistic and intellectual freedom, this freedom does not extend to defaming others, inciting unlawful acts, or degrading human dignity.
5. Civility and Standards of Conduct: Prohibited Material
To safeguard the intellectual climate and constructive spirit of Edebiyatla, the following are strictly prohibited:
- Discrimination and Hate Speech: Any hate speech or derogatory rhetoric targeting individuals or groups based on race, language, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability is barred.
- Defamation and Personal Attacks: Insults, profanity, harassment, libel, blackmail, threats or attacks upon an individual's personal honor and standing will not be tolerated.
- Violence and Incitement: Content glorifying violence, encouraging crime, promoting terrorism or endorsing unlawful substances is prohibited.
- Obscenity: Explicit or pornographic material exceeding artistic and literary context is not allowed.
- Commercial Spam and Sabotage: Unsolicited commercial advertising, chain messaging, trolling, and disruptive conduct designed to undermine the community are forbidden.
6. Moderation and Editorial Care
- Our moderation team does not exist to censor, but to uphold literary standards, mutual courtesy and legal protections.
- Flagged or disputed contributions are examined impartially and thoughtfully, in accordance with literary ethics and these principles.
- Material found in breach of these standards may be removed or unpublished without prior notice. Persistent offenders face temporary or permanent account suspension.
7. Copyright Infringement and Notice-and-Takedown
For copyright infringement, privacy violations and content removal requests, you may contact the email address listed in our masthead; requests are evaluated promptly.
- If you believe published material infringes your copyright, harms your personal rights, or violates the law, you may submit a reasoned request accompanied by supporting documentation.
- Contact Channels:
- Copyright and infringement notices: [email protected]
- General administrative inquiries: [email protected]
- Legitimate, documented complaints are handled under the statutory "Notice and Takedown" procedure under Law No. 5651, and infringing items are removed without delay.
8. A Shared Literary Haven
Edebiyatla is a shared hearth where the writer's word is honored and the reader meets inspiring texts. Cultivating this atmosphere is our collective privilege and duty. Our principles exist not to restrict, but to give literature the dignity it deserves.
